The movie Natsamrat is a 2016 Indian black-and-white drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It is based on the Rajasthani folk theatre play of the same name written by Madhav Prasad Dvivedi and features Shahid Kapoor as Raja Natwarlal. The film was released in India on 5 March 2016. Natsamrat is an interesting, original take on Indian cinema that synthesizes traditional theater styles with classic Bollywood glamor, giving it an indisputably cinematic flair. This is the third time Vishal Bhardwaj has directed a film based on a Bollywood legend. The first two films are outstanding also in terms of boldness of imagination, innovation, verisimilitude and visual virtuosity. The movie begins with Natwarlal completing his medieval study in Delhi university. It ends in his palace where he has finished writing his autobiography. At the very beginning there is an interesting glimpse into Natwarlal's life when he was only 16 years old. Sudha (Abhishek Manu Singhvi) and Natwarlal (Shahid Kapoor) live in a village of Rajasthan and they both study at high diploma. Sudha is the only child of wealthy parents even though he is unable to see. On one occasion Sudha insists on going on a trip with his friends which is against the advice of all elders. Two or three days after departure, they get to know that Sudha has been kidnapped and the kidnappers want a ransom of twenty five lakhs for him. The poor family does not have such an amount and the village looks for some help from outside. Natwarlal's father takes a loan from a rich man who keeps his daughter's thumb impression in the loan papers. The police begin to search for Sudha when his body is found in a field, and Natwarlal is arrested when the police catch him with one lakh rupees stashed away. During the interrogation, he keeps changing his statements about the money and keeps claiming it to be a part of a financial investment that he was going to make on behalf of an unnamed party. He is convicted and sentenced to five years in prison where he meets Iqbal (Annu Kapoor), who will play a major role in Natwarlal's life later on. Natwarlal's sentence is delayed due to the extenuating circumstances and he is released after 10 years, within few days of his forty ninth birthday. Natwarlal goes to Delhi and runs into Sudha's mother (Shabana Azmi) who is prepared to forgive him. The film ends in a dramatic manner where Natwarlal escapes from jail while his friend escapes while Natwarlal escapes while his friend escapes. The soundtrack of "Natsamrat" was released on 9 May 2016 by T-Series. Two songs from the film have been composed by Amit Trivedi while the rest were composed by Bhardwaj himself. cfa1e77820
