The journey to the west overcoming the demons, 720p Since there is no such thing as an expert on Chinese history, every day we will post a new article on a different topic. The purpose of this blog is to provide you with the basic information about China's historical events and people that you should know before visiting our country for your first time. If you're planning on taking a (long) trip to China and want an intro course in Chinese culture before your arrival, then look no further! Every day we'll post one fascinating article about our rich history and culture - from philosophers like Confucius and Lao Tzu to dynasties such as the Song dynasty. Today's article is about the famous novel "Journey to the West". Our main characters are a boy name Sun Wukong and a monkey who is called Zhu Bajie. This novel was written in the Southern Song dynasty. Its title chapter is titled 'The Origins'. It follows a fantasy-like story of a group of animals from the Kingdom of Shaolin from their journey to the west in search of food and riches. They encounter along their long journey many incredible battles, monsters, magical weapons and divine beings. In the end they defeat all demons except for three remaining ones: Fungmo, Xiaolongnü and Laozi. Up to this day people still believe that these three demons are living in the mountains of Huashan. Fungmo is said to be living on Huashan's North Peak, Xiaolongnü (a woman) lives on East Peak and Laozi (the founder of Taoism) is believed to be located in Western peak. The main character Wukong starts out as a very arrogant character by being disrespectful to the gods when he is summoned before them. This leads him into being locked in a bronze cauldron for 500 years, which makes him realize that all beings are equal in the eyes of heaven. Feeling remorse he changes his ways and helps Xuanzang achieve his goal in achieving spiritual enlightenment. The novel was adapted into many films and became immensely popular in China. These films have all been made to comply with the original plot. The following are some other notable works that have been based on this story or characters from the novel: Shaolin Temple located in Songshan county, Henan province is often regarded as the birthplace of martial arts. The temple was founded in 627 by Taoist monk Qu Yuan, who had previously served under King Wu of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period. The temple is known for its "five animal fists" style Wudangquan, which combines elements of Kung fu, Tai chi chuan and Xingyi chuan. Notable Kung fu artists from the temple include Cai Longyun, Shi Yan Ming, Shi Deyang and Yip Man. (Datong) Datong is a city in the northwestern part of Shanxi province. Many buildings of historical interest remain to this day, including a white marble buddhist temple, a mosque and a large stone stela engraved with Dongba characters. The Datong Grand Mosque is China's largest wooden structure still standing that was built during the Liao Dynasty (907-1125 AD). It's stone stela is engraved with dongba characters as well. These characters were used by northern people as an alternative for classifying northern dialects of Chinese during those times. cfa1e77820
